More passengers and more charter destinations

Sønderborg Airport is experiencing significant growth and is set to offer a record number of charter destinations in 2025.

Passenger numbers at Sønderborg Airport continue to grow. In March, passenger growth was 18%, and in the first quarter of 2025, the total growth was 16%. This means that 12,281 passengers have traveled through Sønderborg Airport, compared to 10,550 passengers in the first quarter of 2024.

There is optimism at Sønderborg Airport, where the number of travelers continues to grow. The optimismis further reinforced by the fact that the airport, together with Alsie Express, Gislev Rejser and Neubauer, is on the threshold of the most extensive charter program in the airport’s history.

“In April, our program of charter holidays and trips to more than 17 European destinations will start,” says Jákup Sverri Kass, CEO of Sønderborg Airport. “We are extremely pleased to be able to offer our travelers a record number of European destinations in 2025.”

Neubauer Reisen in Flensburg further contributes to the positive picture by adding two new destinations to the program. In October and November 2025, Neubauer Reisen will fly to Costa Del Sol and Madeira with their Boeing 737-800. It is crucial for Sønderborg Airport to have partners who believe in the potential of Southern Jutland and the border area,” says Jákup Sverri Kass. “The establishment of this outbound charter traffic is clear proof that we have succeeded.”

Sønderborg Airport’s next focus area is to develop inbound charter traffic to boost tourism in the area. As part of this effort, in the first few months of 2025, the airport has participated in “Connect” in Girona and “ITB” in Berlin together with Destination Sønderjylland and Visit Denmark. In April, Sønderborg Airport will also participate in the route development trade fair “Routes Europe” in Seville. “With the opening of Center Parcs in Nordborg and the general positive development of tourism in Southern Jutland, it is important that we as an airport are an active player in attracting tourists to the area,” concludes Jákup Sverri Kass.
