Sønderborg Airport Continues Double-Digit Growth

Passenger numbers rose by 15% in August to 5,068 travelers. The Copenhagen route, the Bornholm service, and a strong charter program are driving the growth, while the airport works to strengthen tourism and raise Sønderborg’s profile in Denmark and across Europe.

Passenger growth in August reached 15%, meaning that 5,068 passengers passed through Sonderborg Airport during the month. The total growth up to and including August was 15% compared to the same period last year.

As the modernization process at Sønderborg Airport progresses, passenger numbers continue to grow. The route to Copenhagen remains essential, primarily for the business segment, but increasingly also for leisure travelers. Additionally, the seasonal route to Bornholm was reintroduced this year, and the charter routes have been well received.

“We aim to connect Sønderborg and Southern Jutland more closely with Denmark and Europe, so that more people outside the region become aware of the opportunities and experiences Sønderborg and Southern Jutland have to offer,” says Jákup Sverri Kass, CEO of Sønderborg Airport.

In close collaboration with local and international partners, Sønderborg Airport is working to promote the region and the borderland. In 2025, the airport participated in route development fairs, destination expos, and other forums aimed at developing tourism in the region. In September, the airport will take part in the Travel Trade Nordic workshop in Frankfurt, organized by Visit Denmark in Germany.
