Strong growth at Sonderborg Airport
The airport is experiencing significant growth on the route to and from Copenhagen, and a growing demand for charter flights offered by Gislev Rejser and Neubauer Turistik.
6,763 passengers flew to and from Sønderborg Airport in May, and this is an increase of over 1,000 passengers compared to May 2024, where 5,760 passengers chose Sønderborg Airport as their shortcut to Copenhagen or out to Europe.
Since the start of the year, there have been 24,388 passengers through the terminal in Sønderborg, in contrast to 21,190 at the same time last year.
“We are experiencing a growing demand for travel to and from Sønderborg Airport. We are seeing more travelers who are based in Zealand, a growing demand from Southern Denmark, and we are also seeing more Northern Germans using our airport than we have in a long time,” says Jákup Sverri Kass, Director of Sønderborg Airport.
Sønderborg Airport sees it as a significant advantage that the airport offers free parking and that it is quick and convenient to get through the terminal.
Part of the growth is due to the growing charter traffic. In May, the airport had a number of charter trips with Gislev Rejser, and then Air Montenegro, on behalf of Neubauer Turistik, flew their Embraer 195 to and from Montenegro.
“This is the first time that we have had an Embraer 195 at Sønderborg Airport, and the operation has been very successful. Our skilled staff now has growing experience in handling larger passenger aircraft, and we look forward to receiving even more in the future,” the director concludes.
